MSA Summer Meeting

Jun 12, 2025 - Jun 13, 2025

AC Hotel by Marriott at Liberty Center

West Chester, OH

Join us for the MSA Summer Meeting on June 12 - 13 and visit the newly expanded American Sign Museum. In response to over 200% growth in the collection, the Museum launched a $5.5M expansion campaign. Completed in July of 2024, the additional 20,000 sf expands the Main Street experience while also adding a theater, dedicated classroom space, and a Gallery for temporary exhibits and 300-person events. The expansion solidifies the American Sign Museum as the largest and most diverse public sign museum in the country.

Here's what to expect from this year’s Summer Meeting: On Thursday there is a morning MSA Board meeting (open to all), a golf scramble, and an evening reception at the American Sign Museum featuring Cincinnati Chili and Coney Dogs for dinner. Friday morning begins with breakfast and an MSA business meeting, followed by a seminar with a working lunch.

Seminars

Let’s Stop Telling & Start Selling is the Friday morning seminar at the MSA Summer Meeting.

Ask some salespeople what they do for a living, and don't be surprised when a handful of them say, "I talk for a living." If you identify with this you are completely normal. Most salespeople talk too much. But when salespeople talk, what are you talking about? Your product, your service, your company, yourselves. That's normal, but not advisable for selling in 2025.

Dave Tear with Sales Coaches' Corner will help you understand what selling is really all about - listening. You will learn the two "sides" to every selling situation and how to position yourself. Tear calls this the Psychology of the Sale. You will learn how to set and manage expectations in sales, so that you Get to Reality much quicker - saving you the most valuable asset - time! You will also learn how to qualify a Sales opportunity. Qualify for: the problem (PAIN), the budget (money conversation) and the decision-making process. It's all about asking questions and . . . wait for it . . . listening!

Following the Friday lunch, the program will continue with Sales Leadership: One of the Toughest Jobs at the Company.

Spend a week or two with a sales leader of any company (Sales Manager, VP of Sales, Sales Director, etc.), and you learn pretty quickly that their job is hard! Hardest job in the company. Sales leaders have the executive team (ownership) coming down on them & asking for more - constantly. Sales leaders have their Team (salespeople) coming up on them - constantly wondering why they have to do this or that and why so much? As you can see, often the coming down and the coming up are in complete contrast. How hard would that be?

Tear will address this dynamic and take his best shot at Coaching you about Sales Activity and Accountability. Two of the least sexy topics in Sales & Sales Leadership but also two of the most important. Most salespeople who fail to execute in their role do so because they don't bring in enough business - don't close. It's true. But the solution to this is NOT to learn 100 ways to close a sale. The solution is to "open" more opportunities. Prospecting, hunting, scheduling appointments, etc. - the activity that puts salespeople in a position to succeed.

Tear also will spend some time on the "A" word - accountability. It's hard enough to hold ourselves accountable sometimes, so how do we hold a salesperson (or a few salespeople) accountable?

Stay tuned!

Free MSA Sales Coaching Help Desk: Dave Tear will provide private telephone, email or text sales coaching sessions to any seminar attendee, 24/7. Typical topics: Qualifying/disqualifying opportunities, setting expectations, negotiating, handling objections, having difficult customer conversations, etc. Phone coaching is unlimited and available to all attendees on an as-needed basis. Tear will either answer the call/email/text or respond within a four-hour period.

Golf Scramble

The MSA golf scramble will begin at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 12, at Green Crest Golf Club, Liberty Township, Ohio. Green Crest opened in 1972, but its story started long before that. George and Delene Harter bought the original 79-acre farm in 1950 and initially raised hogs and grew crops on the property. In 1969, Mitch and Richard Harter shared an idea with their dad that the family needed to make a transition from farming into the golf business. Now celebrating over 50 years of success, Green Crest Colf Club is operated by a third generation of the Harter family. The scramble includes lunch and prizes. Thursday Evening, June 12, Special Event!

MSA will provide private motorcoach transportation, Cincinnati Chili, Coneys, salads and two beverages as we tour the original American Sign Museum and the recently opened expansion. Signs in their simplest form are meant to inform. Whether it’s how fast to drive or where a business is located, we depend on signs to help navigate our daily lives. But what about a sign makes us pay attention to it? Come and see a collection that explores both the innovation and ingenuity of the signs that shape our culture. www.americansignmuseum.org
